Renewal Poster of the movie 'Dori - Hwaga'
left one is the original version and right one is the renewal version.
This is the original version poster of a Korean movie "Dori Hwaga 도리화가" , the story which is about the first woman pansori reciter (a kind of Korean traditional musical telling a story) in 1860s, the time period when women were not allowed to recite the pansori.
I searched for some references of various traditional Korean typography, which is called "Munjado 문자도" in Korean. It has image contents which has meaning of an old idiom related to characters. I thought it would be the proper material for making the renewal graphic version of the movie poster.
There are some samples which are made long time ago and the far right one is the contemporary artwork which is created by famous Korean designer 'An Sang Su'. Unlike most old munjado, the key element of Mr.An's work is the Hangeul, the Korean Alphabet.
Conclusionally, I wanted to make some pieces composed of Roman Alphabets, maintaining the concept and style of munjado.
